I am beginning watching the process of the healthcare reform vote  in the House today and I am unable to to support this current form of the bill. It is unquestionable that reform is necessary. It is obvious that just as public education is a right of the American people so is a complete public health plan. But there a too many fundamental problems in this legislation.

First, regardless what I or anyone else think, most Americans do NOT want this and so the House members who support this legislation are not respecting the oath of their offices. 

This should be health insurance law reform, this is a regulatory problem.

Educating consumers, and sometimes changing behavior is a key to wellness and controlling the cost of healthcare for Hispanics.

US Hispanics represent a large portion of the population experiencing a high incidence of new cases of sexually transmitted diseases including HIV/AIDS.

At the University of Puerto Rico Dr. Pérez-Jiménez and his team are now conducting a study that focuses on reducing the spread of STD's among young heterosexual Hispanic couples.

Online health programs are begining to prove their value to patients. As reported in FierceHealthCare a Diabetic Management program is proving a valuable component of overall patient management. It was reported last spring but it is so important we thought it was worth mentioning again.

Today on Meet the Press (NBC) The Hispanic vote was acknowledged to be steadily increasing. The vote in 1980 was 2% of the national vote, and most recently reached 9%; very soon Hispanics will represent 15% of the national vote.

I started to think about the current situation of Healthcare reform and what is at stake for consumers and especially Hispanics. It is imperative that Hispanics understand their power to influence and participate in Healthcare Reform. Like my grandmother and many others have said...It's the squeaky wheel that gets the grease.

Melanoma is deadlier in Hispanics because it is more likely to go undetected, researchers report. Sun Safety week has just wrapped up and the following is from several reports and sources.

Hispanics are nearly twice as likely to be diagnosed with late stage Melanoma as whites according to a University of Miami study released in 2006. Late diagnosis of melanoma generally significantly reduces the chances for survival. The survival rate for those with early detection is about 99 percent, according to the National Cancer Institute. With later detection, the survival rate falls to between 15 and 65 percent, depending on how far the disease has spread.
